Does anybody have an idea about for what reason and when the gold foil is used in food ? Actually, when i see a picture with some gold foils on the chocolate, i was wondering about that.
The idea of sprinkling gold on your food or suspending it in your drink dates back as far as the 16th century. In modern times, we find ourselves relishing gold-covered doughnuts, pizzas with gold foil and burgers wrapped in gold flakes. However, gold as an element is inert and unfortunately our tongues can't taste it and our stomachs can't digest it, so it does beg the question; why do we put it on our food?
Before we answer that question, let's find out what kind of gold is used in food, just in case you eat some gold that can not be eaten. The gold in food must be 100% pure gold or 24 karat. non-24 karat gold will be alloyed with other metals such as silver, bronze, copper or tin, depending on the application. Consuming impure gold can be very dangerous because the mixed alloys of other metals are likely to be toxic to your body.
Now let's see why. It turns out that the reason many chefs and restaurants add gold to their menus is not because of how wonderful it makes the food taste, but because of the healing properties of gold and also as a marketing technique used to harness the power and opulence of gold to drive people, fame and success to their restaurants. This is true and very clever. Gold is an eternal treasure that has been collected over centuries and millennia. As humans, we yearn for the company of gold and its luster. Putting gold on a plate of food, in a way, makes us curious, even a compulsion. This is the power of gold and this is how people use it for their own benefit.
